11/01/01  Exploring New Orleans's French Quarter and Riverwalk

We woke up a little late from all the activity from last night.  We headed over to the dining room for breakfast.  The French sure know how to make good bread stuff and coffee.  Probably the freshest pastries and coffee we ever had.

Glenn and I loved the old French atmosphere of the rooms.  It's wonderful, and this is the closest Glenn has come to experiencing the "Old World" atmosphere.  We worked on sending out some emails and then headed out to explore the area in the daytime.  We checked some of the overpriced stores in the area.  Ate at ACME Oyster Bar, the best place for oyster food.  Glenn had to have his Oyster Po'Boy.  Ever since Las Vegas where he had his Po'Boys in Emiril's restaurant, he's been drooling for some good OYSTER PO'BOY.  We ordered the Po'Boy sandwiches and a pound of Crawfish.

At the Mississippi It was good, Glenn almost passed out from shear bliss.  After lunch, we headed towards the Mississippi River.  Both of us were at the headwaters of the Mississippi, and now we are at the Southern end, the delta area (okay, close enough to the delta area).  We walked around the old time steamboats and headed towards the Aquarium of the Americas.  A little pricey to get in, but we did it anyways.  We enjoyed walking through the Amazon area, Greg you gotta check out the Pacus that they have here.  I took some pix just to give you an idea.  And you gotta read about how the natives catch the fish.  I was laughing so hard, and I figured this is why they are in your life, they are your animal spirit, your kindred.  Read the sign!  You have to keep your Pacu.

We walked around and saw other awesome things, wishing we could go scuba diving again.  We saw some fish from the Caribbean......

We then went back into the French Quarter and walked around some more.  We got some dinner at a place on Bourbon Street, we forgot the name, and we got Gumbo, Crawfish Ettoufee, and  Jambalaya.  The food was not that good, and the bread was very old and dry.  What a disappointment.  On our way home we stopped by a Voodoo store and I had a Tarot reading done.  Nothing spectacular was said, I'm not going to become a millionaire or anything.  My life is going well, and I agree.  I told Glenn what was said, and we'll see if anything comes true.  After walking around for a little bit longer, we headed back to the hotel.  It was late again, so walking the streets in the dark was eerie, but cool.  We continued working on the website, we've been experiencing some problems with this site.  We've had to rework pix and stuff.  It's been a pain in the butt, but we want to get it done, not just for you guys but for us too.  This is our journal of what we did, and maybe one day our children will get to read this too.  The day ended all too soon.  Tomorrow we leave Louisiana and head towards Glenn's folks place in Florida.  New Orleans is a good place to take Letti and Mike for their Bachlor/Bachlorette party.

11/02/01  Mile 9200 - Going towards Florida.

We got up early, grabbed some breakfast in the dining room, and started packing up.  We are a bit sad because we know this is close to the end of our trip.  From here on out we will be trying to get our lives together, looking for a home and jobs.  We'll be in Florida at least through out Thanksgiving.  We'll probably not write too much since we'll be camping out with Glenn's folks.  Then the last adventure will be our last leg of the trip home.  We enjoyed seeing the swampland and all the bridges going over it.  Glenn got some sneak peaks at some battleships docked at some harbors.  This'll be the longest drive of the trip, we will be traveling almost 12 hours to get to our destination.  My legs and back can't handle this much driving.  It's a good thing we will be able to recuperate in Florida.  Maybe get to do some more diving.

We've finally made it; and in record time.  According to the maps it was supposed to be 12 hours of driving, but it only took us 9.5 hours even with some construction....no, I was only staying about 5-7mph above posted.

Joule and her woobie...Joule with a blanket around her head.Joule, our dog, was the first to hear us as we heard her barking as we pulled up to the driveway.  Aren't dogs just...cool!!!  She actually remembered Monika's voice as Joule's defense bark went to "MOM!!!" bark one second after she heard her voice.  We greeted Glenn's dad and of course the mutt and my dad had dinner almost ready for us since he was expecting us another three hours later.  Let me tell you, there's nothing like home cooked food after long road trips.  Oh yeah, Joule had lost several pounds and she now looked like a year old pup.  She looked kinda - weird, but nothing else about her had changed; still as happy as ever.  It turns out that some of the meds she was taking for her arthritis was affecting her appetite.  So, it was decided that she's going to the vet just to make sure she's alright and that we'd explain her medication to my parents again.

Fed, exhausted, and sleepy; Monika went to bed as I tried to upload our new changes to the web site.  And of course, I had problems....it sucks trying to upload a dozen megs of web changes; and the best speed you can get on a modem is 12000bps....and other upload problems.  So, I cat-napped for the next three hours and then gave up around 2am.

11/03/2001

The day was spent unloading the car for a full top to bottom cleaning.  It's kinda scary to see how much was packed into our little Subaru Outback Sport.  We should've taken a picture of is...we'll try later.

11/04/2001

We've actually began cleaning the inside of the car, and lucky no food was found left over from Badlands N.P....gee how long ago was that!?!

We also spent time taking digital pix of the ATV ride on Kauai; yeah I know...about frigging time!!!   And I've put them back in October 2001, so click here to see them.

Here are photos of our beloved cats who are being taken care of by our beloved friends.  Thanks to Brian and Shelly and of course Ren for watching Amoeba; and And Brian, Laura, John, and Smokey for keeping our Thebes and Indigo company.
